After Gaza War, Israel’s Plans for the Strip’s Future Depend on Trump’s Policy
As Israel nears the end of its military operations in Gaza, the international community is watching closely as the country prepares for the post-conflict phase. With nearly 1.9 million people displaced within Gaza, security officials agree that the future of the region will depend on the policy of the new Trump administration.
Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, has outlined a vision for Gaza’s future, stating that Israel will maintain full security control after defeating Hamas’ military and political power. The plan includes new governance structures, with a technocratic body comprising 12-15 Palestinian figures to oversee infrastructure, humanitarian aid, and reconstruction.
However, senior IDF officials warn that without a clear strategic plan for the post-conflict period, the achievements of the military campaign could be undone. Some Israeli officials believe that the uncertainty surrounding U.S. policy under the upcoming administration is tied to the lack of a coherent strategy.
Several plans for Gaza’s future have been proposed, including a militaristic approach by Retired Major General Giora Eiland, which calls for the evacuation of northern Gaza’s population and the siege of Gaza’s northern region to force Hamas to submit. Other plans, like those proposed by Major General (res.) Amos Yadlin, advocate for a diplomatic solution, involving Arab states like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE to stabilize Gaza.
Israel’s exclusion of the Palestinian Authority (PA) from the post-Hamas governance of Gaza raises questions about future governance and stability. While a technocratic approach is favored by Israel, it remains uncertain whether such a model can function without the involvement of the PA.
The UAE has emerged as a key player in Gaza’s future, with its willingness to engage in humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts. However, Israel’s primary concern remains security, with a focus on preventing a return to the pre-October 7 status quo and ensuring that Hamas does not regain control.
