Israel Conducted a Commando Raid on Syrian Missile Facility, Report Says

Ad

In early September, Israel conducted a secretive commando raid on an underground Iranian missile production facility near the city of Maysaf in Syria. The raid was detected by various sources, including Axios, which first reported the news on September 12. The Jerusalem Post, however, was unable to confirm the incident without official permission to publish the information.

Despite the Israeli government’s initial reluctance to publicly acknowledge the operation, the IDF has since taken credit for the raid, allowing KAN News to report on the event. This development may be attributed to the increasingly flexible nature of Israeli secrecy rules regarding operations in Syria, which have become more relaxed since the fall of the Assad regime.

The raid targeted two significant sites: the Syrian defense industry’s Scientific Studies and Research Center and the underground missile production facility run by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps. The facility had been under Israeli surveillance for years, and Israel had reportedly informed the United States about the planned operation in advance.

The strike was prompted by concerns over the transfer of precision missile components into the facility, which Israel believed could potentially lead to the mass production of missiles intended for use by Hezbollah. The operation was deemed urgent, as the facility is located approximately 200 kilometers from Israeli territory and the potential risk of the facility reaching full production capacity was deemed too great to ignore.

The raid is a strategic move by Israel to address the growing threat posed by the Iranian missile factory and to prevent the proliferation of advanced missiles in the region.
