A dentist and father of six, James Craig, has been accused of murdering his wife, Angela, by lacing her protein shakes with poison. The arrest warrant affidavit paints a picture of Craig as a “risk taker” with a struggling dental practice and a tumultuous marriage. The document reveals that in the weeks leading up to her death, Craig was researching undetectable poisons and making internet searches for ways to make poison.
Craig’s online presence, which includes a YouTube video promoting his dental practice, presents a very different portrait of the man. In the video, he talks about his treatment philosophy, which “begins with sincerely listening to the patient and wanting to find out more about where they’re coming from and what they’re looking for and what they want.” He also claims to create an environment where patients feel comfortable and surprised at how comfortable they are.
However, the investigation into Angela’s death uncovered multiple instances of Craig’s suspicious behavior, including researching ways to kill someone undetected, providing his wife with poisons that aligned with her hospitalized symptoms, and starting a new relationship with another woman. The affidavit also details a plot to kill an Aurora detective who investigated the case, with Craig attempting to solicit a fellow inmate to commit the murder.
Craig has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and other charges and has yet to retain a new attorney after his original lawyer withdrew from the case. His trial has been put on hold until he is represented by new counsel.
