Indonesia Close to Deal with Apple for iPhone 16 Sales Lift
Indonesia is near a deal with Apple Inc. for an investment plan that could lift a ban on iPhone 16 sales in the country, according to investment minister Rosan Roeslani. Roeslani told Bloomberg News on Tuesday that the issue could be resolved within one or two weeks. Apple has not yet responded to a request for comment, while the Indonesian government could not be reached for comment.
The ban on iPhone 16 sales was put in place last year after Apple failed to meet requirements that smartphones sold in the country must comprise at least 40% locally-made parts. Apple does not have manufacturing facilities in Indonesia, a country of approximately 280 million people, but has established application developer academies in the region since 2018.
