According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred at 4:15 pm on State Road 14, east of County Road 475 E, near the Pulaski County line. During the traffic stop, Huttle, who was armed with a gun, resisted arrest and an altercation took place between him and the officer, resulting in the officer firing his weapon and fatally wounding Huttle.

Huttle was charged with misdemeanor offenses after trespassing into the US Capitol Building on January 6, 2021. He was sentenced to six months in federal prison and was released on July 17.

Jasper County Sheriff Patrick Williamson released a statement on the shooting, saying that the deputy involved has been placed on paid administrative leave and that the Indiana State Police are investigating the incident. The sheriff expressed his condolences to Huttle’s family, saying, “Any loss of life is traumatic to those that were close to Mr. Huttle.”
