Indiana football player chooses Barstool Sports over NFL Draft.

Mike Katic Trades in His NFL Dreams for Media Career

Former Indiana University center Mike Katic has decided to forgo the NFL and pursue a career as a media personality and analyst at Barstool Sports. After playing six years for the Hoosiers, Katic will start his new role on March 1 and has already gotten a warm welcome from Barstool’s staff, including a visit to its offices and a meet-and-greet with Coach Jon Gruden.

Katic had initially declared for the 2022 NFL Draft, but ultimately returned to school for his final year of eligibility. It’s unclear where he would have been drafted, with Pro Football Focus grading him as the 10th best center in the Power Four conferences.

Katic hinted at his playing days coming to an end after Indiana’s College Football Playoff loss to Notre Dame, saying “Thank you Indiana University. Thank you Football” on his social media platform X.

Instead, he has joined Barstool Sports and is set to work out of the company’s Chicago office. According to Barstool CEO Dave Portnoy, Katic was hired quickly after seeing him do media work in several clips. The Pittsburgh native will start his new role on March 1, bringing his NFL-playing experience and energy to the Barstool team.
