Steelers Wide Receiver’s Comments Ignite Rivalry with Browns
When asked if his comments would give the Browns bulletin board material, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver CeeDee Pickens played it cool, stating he was only focused on his team’s performance. However, the Browns’ Javon Newsome wasn’t having it.
The two teams have a long and storied rivalry, with the Steelers holding a significant advantage over the years. Despite the Browns’ surprising success against the Steelers in recent years, including a win in their last meeting, the Steelers have still been the dominant force in the AFC North.
At 3-9, the Browns don’t have much to brag about, but they did manage to get the better of the Steelers in their last matchup. Newsome, seemingly fired up by Pickens’ comments, shot back at the Steelers receiver, calling him out for his unsportsmanlike conduct on the field and referencing a supportive direct message Pickens sent him in 2019.
The comment was timely, as Pickens had drawn two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties in the Steelers’ win over Cincinnati in Week 13. Newsome added a screenshot of the supportive message, complete with laughing and clown emojis, to drive his point home.
The two teams will meet again on Sunday in Pittsburgh, with Pickens listed as questionable with a hamstring injury. Perhaps the animosity between the two players will only add to the intensity of the game.
