Ice Cube On Dr. Dre Diss Being Compared To Drake Vs. Metro Boomin
Ice Cube has weighed in on the comparison between his verbal spat with Dr. Dre and the ongoing beef between Drake and Metro Boomin. In an interview with HipHopDX, the rapper stated that the two situations are similar, but there are some key differences.
Both feuds involve two highly respected figures in the hip-hop world trading bars, with the soundbites being analyzed by fans and critics alike. However, Ice Cube believes that his beef with Dr. Dre was different due to the generational context in which it occurred.
“Dre and I were coming from different places, we were coming from different eras, we were coming from different environments,” Ice Cube explained. “We were representing different eras, different styles, different attitudes. So, it was a little different.”
The Death Row Records founder also noted that his diss track against Dr. Dre, “No Vaseline,” was a product of its time, intended to send a message about the changing landscape of hip-hop in the early 1990s.
“It was like, I was saying, ‘Hey, listen, I’m from this era, and I’m from this place, and I’m representing this style, and I’m doing this, and I’m saying this, and I’m trying to keep it real, and I’m trying to keep it Gangsta, and I’m trying to keep it, you know, authentic.’ You know what I mean? So, it was a little different.”
