I wanted an abortion, but a chance encounter with a friend changed my life forever.

When I found out I was pregnant with my fifth child, I was overwhelmed and alone. The father and I had agreed to break up if I kept the child, and I was unsure if I could handle another baby. I started researching abortion options and contacted the Human Coalition clinic for a consultation. I was assigned a staff member named Jillisa, who turned out to be a close friend and ally throughout my pregnancy.

The consultation was a one-on-one conversation about all of my options, including abortion, adoption, and parenting. I felt informed, supported, and heard, and left feeling in control and empowered. I realized I didn’t need someone to perform an abortion, but someone to explain all my options and make me feel capable and heard.

As a result, I decided to keep my daughter, and Jillisa and the staff at the Human Coalition clinic connected me with other resources, including a group for moms to support each other. I received support and help, and my pregnancy was no longer overwhelming.

I had previously thought I needed someone to perform an abortion, but what I actually needed was someone to explain my options, provide support, and make me feel heard. I encourage other women to seek out similar support, knowing that they are not alone. It is possible to find help and receive the protection, support, and network of relationships that can uplift them through every season of their life.
