I Can’t Get Over Ryan Reynolds’ 19 Different Deadpool & Wolverine Movie Ideas

Ryan Reynolds Pitched 19 Different Ideas for Deadpool 3 Before Landing on Deadpool & Wolverine

It’s astonishing to think that Ryan Reynolds came up with 19 different ideas for Deadpool 3 before finally settling on Deadpool & Wolverine. The immense success of the movie, which grossed $1.3 billion worldwide, proves that the correct decision was made. The movie broke the record for the highest-grossing R-rated film, previously held by Joker.

According to a behind-the-scenes featurette, Reynolds and his team pitched a wide range of ideas, from a Sundance-style movie featuring Deadpool in his suit but no action sequences to a $200 million-budgeted movie with a much bigger scope. Reynolds himself has confirmed that he pitched a plethora of ideas, stating that he felt like he had “run the gamut” after each pitch.

In an interview, Reynolds revealed that he pitched many different ideas, including a “Deadpool’s Deleted Scenes Extravaganza” where it would have been revealed that Deadpool was present throughout the MCU’s main timeline all along. Executive Producer Wendy Jacobson added that Reynolds had a vast array of ideas, saying that he threw “anything at the wall” during the pitching process.

Despite the many different ideas, Deadpool & Wolverine turned out to be the perfect love letter to the Marvel movies of yesteryear and integrated Deadpool and Wolverine into the MCU perfectly. The movie’s success was largely due to the cameos and moments of fan service, which may have been divisive for some critics.

The fact that Reynolds’ ideas have gone from strength to strength makes fans wonder if all of his other ideas should be given another chance now that he’s officially part of the MCU. While it’s unclear how many pitches are normal for a new MCU movie, Reynolds’ dedication to the character and his franchise is evident. With a follow-up to the highly successful Deadpool films already in the works, it’s likely that we won’t have to wait long for the Merc with a Mouth’s next adventure.
