Lunden Roberts, the mother of Hunter Biden’s child, Navy Joan Roberts, has backed President Biden’s decision to issue a sweeping pardon for his son. In a statement provided by her publisher, Skyhorse, Roberts said, “I think what Joe did is what the love of any parent would do and not everybody will understand that.” She added, “I’d like to see more of that love towards Navy Joan and hope that Biden will take the steps to become a grandparent for my daughter.”
Roberts also believes that Hunter was “targeted because of who his dad is,” citing the fact that many individuals have committed similar offenses and have not faced the same level of scrutiny. However, she acknowledged that her son’s father is the President of the United States, which has made him a high-profile figure.
Roberts’ support for her son’s pardon comes as a surprise, as President Biden had previously denied rumors of pardoning his son. In August, President Biden published a book, “Promises to Keep,” in which he repeatedly stated that he would not pardon Hunter. However, just days after the book’s release, the White House announced that President Biden would pardon all offenses committed by Hunter from January 1, 2014, to December 1, 2024.
The sweeping pardon covers a range of offenses, including Hunter’s conviction on federal gun charges in Delaware and his guilty plea on federal tax charges in California. Hunter was scheduled to be sentenced in both cases this month.
Roberts has written a book, “Out of the Shadows: My Life Inside the Wild World of Hunter Biden,” which details her experiences with her son’s addiction and their ultimately complicated relationship. She has also spoken publicly about her desire to build a relationship with her daughter, Navy, who she revealed to be sober since 2020.
