A 35-year-old Texas man with a lengthy criminal record has been arrested after allegedly bursting into his mother’s home, stabbing her, and demanding her wallet.
Joseph Anthony Abreu, a convicted felon, kicked down the door of the Houston home on Saturday at around 3:15 pm and demanded his mother’s wallet. When she refused, Abreu pushed her and stabbed her, according to police.
Abreu then fled the scene, but was apprehended on Sunday. His mother was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
Abreu has been charged with aggravated assault of a family member and burglary with intent to commit other felony.
This is not Abreu’s first run-in with the law. In 2015, he was convicted of prostitution with three or more priors in Harris County. In 2021, he tried to purchase a gun from an Academy Sports and Outdoors store, despite it being illegal for a convicted felon to possess a firearm. Abreu was sentenced to four years in the Texas Department of Corrections for attempted possession of a firearm by a felon.
Abreu is being held in the Harris County Jail on a combined bond of $202,500 and is scheduled to appear in court later today.
