The Case for Healthcare Freedom: A Roadmap to Make America Healthy Again

Representative Chip Roy, R-Texas, has unveiled a 47-page report titled “The Case for Healthcare Freedom” which serves as a roadmap to address America’s health crisis and its impact on national defense. The report argues that the current healthcare system is flawed and that conservatives must work to reverse the trends of increasing healthcare spending and costs.

According to the report, U.S. healthcare spending reached $4.9 trillion in 2023, accounting for 17.6% of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP). The report also notes that costs are growing around 1% faster than the annual GDP.

The report criticizes the current system, stating that politicians, bureaucrats, and corporations are benefiting from a broken, cronyistic system that prioritizes profits over patients. Roy argues that the solution is not to give more power and money to the same actors, but to promote healthcare freedom through the empowerment of patients and doctors.

The report also targets specific issues, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which will likely pay over $250 billion on junk food for the next 10 years, and the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk, which spent at least $25.8 million over the past decade on U.S. medical professionals to promote its obesity drugs.

The report also notes that families and employers are spending an average of $25,000 annually on health insurance, despite the false promise of Obamacare to lower premiums. The report also criticizes the cost of premiums, which have increased at least 100% since 2010.

The report concludes that the healthcare system is not a free market, with the government controlling more than 80% of health spending. The report argues that the Left’s solution to fix the healthcare system is to spend even more money and give the government more control, which would leave 70% of Americans financially worse off.

The report is seen as a roadmap for Congressional Republicans to help President Trump deliver on his promise to address America’s health crisis.
