HOUSTON TRUCK ATTACK: ‘ISIS-INSPIRED’ TERRORIST KILLED 15 PEOPLE AFTER LEAVING COMFORTABLE LIFE IN U.S. ARMY
Houston resident Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old U.S.-born military veteran, carried out an ISIS-inspired terrorist attack on Bourbon Street in New Orleans on New Year’s Day, killing 15 people.
Jabbar, who had served in the Army for over a decade, including a deployment to Afghanistan, had lived in a trailer park in Houston’s outskirts, surrounded by animals such as sheep, goats, and chickens in the yard. Despite his troubled financial situation, including a failed second marriage and large credit card debt, Jabbar had presented a clean-cut and trustworthy image online, describing himself as a “reliable and trustworthy native Texan” who spent 10 years in the military.
Investigations have revealed that Jabbar lived near a local mosque and had even traveled to Egypt for 10 days last year. He also made videos referencing the Quran and had a criminal record, having been arrested twice in the past.
Neighbors described Jabbar as quiet and reserved, but no one seemed to know much about his background. The FBI arrived at the trailer park on New Year’s Day, clearing journalists out of the area and imposing a lockdown. Jabbar was killed in a shootout with police after the attack.
