A woman named Cathy Dowdy is in a coma after saving a 6-year-old boy from a riptide in Florida. The boy, who is the son of 2023 Open Championship winner Brian Harman, was on a boogie board when he was ripped out to sea by a strong current. Dowdy, a family friend, went into the ocean to rescue the child but was unable to reach him and began to struggle in the current.

Another man, Crane Cantrell, saw what was happening and went in to help. A lifeguard eventually pulled Dowdy from the water and performed life-saving measures until medical help arrived. Harman said his son was okay, but Dowdy was injured badly and has been in a coma for six weeks.

Harman praised Dowdy’s bravery, saying that she and Cantrell disregarded themselves to save his son and that their actions were “the most beautiful thing you can do in this life.” He also used his platform to bring awareness to the incident and the bravery of those who risked their lives to save his son.
