The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is known for its memorable characters, but there are also many forgettable D-listers and villains that fill out the franchise’s roster. While the MCU has succeeded in creating iconic characters, there are also those that are easily forgotten.
One such character is Betty Ross, the love interest of Bruce Banner in The Incredible Hulk. Despite being a scientist and being in love with Bruce, Betty is a one-dimensional character with little to no memorable traits. Her return in Captain America: Brave New World will be interesting to see how the MCU redeems her.
Another forgettable villain is Dar-Benn, the main antagonist of The Marvels. A zealous Kree warrior, Dar-Benn seeks revenge on Captain Marvel for starting a civil war that tore her home planet apart. However, she is a generic and unremarkable villain with little personality or compelling motivation.
Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, a high-ranking HYDRA leader, is another forgettable character. He first appeared in a mid-credits scene for Captain America: The Winter Soldier and had little screen time to flesh out his motivations or backstory.
Malekith, the leader of the Dark Elves in Thor: The Dark World, is also an easily-forgotten villain. With a generic design and a dull performance from actor Christopher Eccelston, Malekith’s name is often forgotten since his appearance in Avengers: Endgame.
Finally, Kirigi, the leader of The Hand’s clan of mutant warriors in Elektra, is perhaps the most boring and forgettable Marvel villain ever put to screen. With generic powers, no personality, and an undefined goal or backstory, Kirigi is a character that is easily forgotten.
The MCU has had its fair share of forgettable characters, but it is also capable of creating iconic and memorable ones. As the franchise continues to expand, it will be interesting to see how the MCU addresses its forgettable characters and creates new ones that will be remembered for years to come.
