After a slower 2024, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Universe are set to make a splash in 2025. Marvel fans are in for a treat as the franchise has a slew of upcoming projects to make up for the slim year. The DC Universe, on the other hand, is expected to make or break its franchise with many moving parts.
The MCU is set to release three movies in 2025, including Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. These films will introduce new characters, such as the Fantastic Four, Red Hulk, and Sentry, and expand the franchise’s worldbuilding. The films will also explore unexplained mysteries, such as what happened to Avengers Tower.
On the DC side, James Gunn’s DC Universe is set to kick off with the release of David Corenswet’s Superman in July. This movie will be the first solo Superman film since 2013 and will be followed by other DC heroes and villains debuting to help build out the shared universe.
In addition to movies, Marvel Studios is releasing its first TV-MA animated series, What If…?, which sets up a bloody event. The show will be a continuation of Marc Spector, also known as the merc with a mouth, who will have a role in the universe’s most eventful plot. This is not the only exciting development, as Marvel Zombies will be the franchise’s first TV-MA series, featuring a version of Blade serving as the universe’s Moon Knight.
Overall, 2025 is shaping up to be a big year for both the MCU and DC Universe, with a packed slate of movies and TV shows that will continue to expand the franchises’ reaches.
