Harvey Weinstein Hospitalized Again, Suffering from Leukemia

Ad

Less than a week after suing the City of New York and others over “deplorable conditions” at Rikers Island jail, convicted rapist and producer Harvey Weinstein has been rushed to Manhattan’s Bellevue Hospital.

Weinstein, 72, is being treated for a serious condition, including leukemia, and is expected to remain at the hospital until his condition stabilizes. His lawyer, Imran H. Ansari, said that Weinstein’s lack of adequate medical care and inhumane conditions at Rikers Island are a violation of his constitutional rights and amount to medical malpractice.

Weinstein has a history of health issues, including leukemia, which has been diagnosed multiple times. He has also been treated for pneumonia, Covid-19, and bone marrow cancer. This is the third time he has been admitted to Bellevue Hospital in recent months, and he has already spent several stints there.

Weinstein’s lawyer, Imran H. Ansari, is representing him in both his upcoming sex crimes retrial and a $5 million lawsuit against the state of New York over the conditions at Rikers Island.

The news comes as a new lawsuit was filed last week against the city and other authorities, accusing them of depriving Weinstein of adequate medical care and subjecting him to inhumane conditions.

Weinstein’s lawyers claim that his deprivation of care is not only medical malpractice but also a violation of his constitutional rights. His publicist, Juda Engelmayer, added that Weinstein’s mistreatment constitutes “cruel and unusual punishment.”

The once-feared mogul is expected to go on trial in New York early next year, pending his health and the outcome of his civil suit.
