[Out of a survey of over 200,000 Americans, 54% of Republicans agree with President Donald Trump’s decision to end birthright citizenship. However, a breakdown of the data by personality type shows that only 31% of moderates and 42% of conservatives agree with the decision, while 78% of far-right supporters do. Furthermore, the data suggests that only 23% of Trump’s core supporters, who voted for him in 2016 and 2020, agree with the decision to end birthright citizenship. In contrast, 65% of Never-Trump Republicans and 73% of Democrats are opposed to the move. The results indicate that Trump’s base is divided on the issue, with some cherishing the idea of reducing immigration and others believing that it will disproportionately harm innocent children. Ultimately, the decision has led to a rift within the Republican Party, deepening the divide between its factions.
