Hannah Kobayashi: Father of missing Hawaii woman found dead in Los Angeles, police say

[The father of a Hawaii woman who went missing two weeks ago was found dead on Sunday, the Los Angeles Police Department said. Ryan Kobayashi, 58, had traveled to Los Angeles to help find his daughter, Hannah Kobayashi, who was last heard from on November 11.

Hannah Kobayashi, 30, was supposed to visit her aunt in upstate New York, but she didn’t board a connecting flight to New York City during a layover at Los Angeles International Airport on November 8. Her family received a series of suspicious texts from her phone after her disappearance, including messages about her identity being stolen and funds being taken.

Ryan Kobayashi’s body was found around 4 a.m. on Sunday at an address near the airport. Police did not provide any information on the suspected cause of death, but the Kobayashi family said he died by suicide. The family had been searching for Hannah Kobayashi for 13 days and had spoken to the media on behalf of their daughter, seeking help from the public.

In a statement, the Kobayashi family urged the public to “maintain focus on the search” and said Hannah is still actively missing and believed to be in imminent danger. They also shared that Hannah had sent a photo that appears to show her getting off her flight at the Los Angeles airport, as well as a video of her at a Nike store and a photo of the event on her Instagram account.

The family is still seeking help in finding Hannah, who is believed to be in the Los Angeles area. If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts or mental health matters, help is available.
