Tennessee Titans Fire General Manager Ran Carthon Amid 3-14 Season
The Tennessee Titans announced Tuesday that they have fired general manager Ran Carthon, roughly three months before the team is slated to make the top pick in the NFL Draft. Carthon had been with the team for two seasons, posting a 9-25 record.
The firing comes after the team’s disappointing 3-14 campaign, despite going on a free-agent shopping spree in the previous offseason. Titans team owner Amy Adams Strunk informed Carthon of the decision on Tuesday morning.
Strunk cited the team’s poor win-loss record and concern about the long-term future as reasons for the firing. She expressed disappointment in the team’s performance and promised to work towards building a team that fans expect and deserve.
Despite the firing of Carthon, head coach Brian Callahan will return next season. The team is likely to focus on selecting a quarterback with the top pick in the draft, with Shedeur Sanders and Cam Ward being top contenders.
Deion Sanders, the father of Shedeur, took to social media to react to the news, writing “WOW” with eyeball emojis. The team’s owner has stated that they will be “absolute fools” if they do not take Travis Hunter, a teammate of Shedeur’s.
The Tennessee Titans own the number one pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, and the decision to fire Carthon has implications for the team’s future plans.
