Abdur Rahim-Jabbar, the half-brother of Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the suspect in the New Year’s Day terror attack in New Orleans, believes that radicalization was to blame for the attack, despite not having seen any signs ahead of time.
In an interview with Fox News, Rahim-Jabbar expressed his condolences for the attack, which left over a dozen people dead and many more injured. The incident occurred when Jabbar drove a truck down Bourbon Street in New Orleans early on January 1, 2025.
Rahim-Jabbar, who grew up in Beaumont, Texas, said that Jabbar, along with his entire family, was raised as a Muslim. However, Jabbar had stepped away from Islam following his latest divorce and later found his way back to the faith.
According to Rahim-Jabbar, Jabbar struggled to find his place in life and spent time in the army in an effort to find direction and a viable career path. Following his divorces, he began to seek guidance in his life.
Rahim-Jabbar emphasized that the attack was not a direct reflection of his brother or the Muslim community, and he expressed hope that people would not generalize the actions of one individual to an entire faith group.
