Half of People Have Recently Been Somewhere That Does Not Accept Cash or Discourages Its Use
A recent survey conducted by Link, an ATM and cash access network, has found that half of people have visited locations that do not accept cash or discourage its use. The survey, which polled over 2,100 people in the UK in November, also sheds light on how and where people use cash.
According to the results, parking locations are the most common place where people have encountered cash-unfriendly environments. This is followed by cafes and restaurants, with public transport and pubs tied for third place.
In contrast, convenience stores, supermarkets, and giving money to friends and family are the top places where people prefer to use cash. Interestingly, nearly three-quarters (73%) of respondents reported using cash within the previous two weeks.
Graham Mott, director of strategy at Link, commented on the findings, stating, “While more people are choosing to use digital payments, cash remains resilient and people like using cash, and certainly like having the choice to use it if they want.”
