Governor Andrew Cuomo dominates polls in potential NYC mayoral bid.

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo Projected to Win NYC Mayor Primary

A new poll conducted by the Progressive Democrats of America has projected former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo as the likely winner of the New York City mayoral primary. Despite not officially entering the race, Cuomo received 32% of first-choice votes among likely candidates, far ahead of his nearest competitors.

In the poll, Cuomo was followed by former City Comptroller Scott Stringer (10%), current Comptroller Brad Lander (8%), and Queens State Senator Jessica Ramos (7%). Embattled incumbent Mayor Eric Adams tied with Assemblymember Zohran Mandani with 6%.

In a simulated ranked-choice scenario, Cuomo secured victory in the fifth round with 51% of the vote, while Stringer, Ramos, and Lander trailed behind. Adams, struggling with low approval ratings and ongoing federal corruption investigations, would be eliminated early in the process.

The survey also revealed that 71% of respondents held a negative view of Adams, while 48% of Democrats viewed Cuomo favorably, with 44% holding an unfavorable opinion.

Adams has dismissed the poll, pointing to the inaccuracy of past election predictions and stating, “Polls don’t make mayors. People do. It’s so amazing I’m still in it. I’m still here.”

However, critics of the poll, including Adams’ campaign insiders, have questioned its accuracy, citing over-sampling of liberal voters and potential error in reflecting the broader Democratic electorate.
