House Oversight Chairman and Republican, Rep. James Comer, threw his support behind Democratic congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in her bid to take the ranking member position on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee. Ocasio-Cortez is vying for the position currently held by her fellow Democrat, Jamie Raskin.
Comer, speaking on “Fox News Live,” explained that he believed Ocasio-Cortez would make an effective oversight ranking member due to her ability to connect with a segment of the Democratic Party that represents socialism, the Green New Deal, and Wokeism.
When asked by co-anchor Arthel Neville about what leadership qualities make Ocasio-Cortez a good fit, Comer replied that “she’s better spoken,” and added that the Democrats are moving away from their current leaders, implying that Ocasio-Cortez’s endorsement would harm her with her own party.
Ocasio-Cortez’s perceived leadership qualities, according to Comer, are nonexistent, as he believes that as a minority leader, she doesn’t have to display leadership. He claimed that she would instead spend her time trying to obstruct and complain, but considered her the “best” the Democrats on the oversight committee have.
Comer did acknowledge a few positives about Ocasio-Cortez’s potential leadership, stating that she was “nicer” than Jamie Raskin and “pleasant to be around.”
