Not Even Pro Women’s Golf Tournaments Are Safe from the Trump Dance
Not even the world of professional women’s golf is immune to the phenomenon of athletes celebrating big moments by doing the Trump dance, a move made famous by President-elect Donald Trump’s election victory. England’s Charley Hull, a star player in the Women’s Open Championship, recently became the latest to bring the dance to the course.
At the CME Group Tour Championship at Tiburon, Hull explained her affinity for Trump, calling him “brilliant” and a “legend.” She praised his unapologetic and straightforward approach, stating, “I love Trump. I think he’s brilliant. I like how he just says things, he doesn’t care what people think, and he’s straight to the point.”
Hull’s admiration for Trump even extended to wishing he were the leader of her home country, the United Kingdom, rather than the current Prime Minister Keir Starmer, whom she deemed “a little better” than Trump. Starmer became Prime Minister after the Labour Party won the majority in parliament, ending 14 years of Conservative Party governance.
Hull’s interest in Trump isn’t limited to his politics; she also spoke positively about Trump’s golf course, Trump Turnberry in Scotland. “I thought it was a great golf course, great fun. I love being out there, and the views are brilliant,” she said. Her sentiments are part of a growing trend, as other professional golfers, such as Bryson Dechambeau and Dustin Johnson, have expressed support for Trump.
The Trump dance has also made its way into other professional sports, including the NFL, with several athletes performing the dance to celebrate big plays. The trend has sparked controversy, but for Hull, Trump’s charm lies in his fearlessness and straight-talking approach.
