Gleaton Jones, 21, dies at age 21, a former Georgia running back and national champion.



Gleaton Jones, a 21-year-old former University of Georgia running back, passed away on Monday following injuries sustained in a car crash in Florida. Jones was on a hunting trip when the accident occurred, resulting in a brain injury and ICU treatment.

According to his obituary, Jones was a “joyful and magnetic” person, known for his bright light, which could lift others’ spirits. He was born in Georgia, attended Deerfield-Windsor School, and committed to the University of Georgia, where he played football for one season.

Jones was described as “well-liked, popular, and charming, but also humble, kind, empathetic, and personable.” His close friends referred to him as “Gleat.”

The University of Georgia community, the Deerfield-Windsor School community, and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity have all provided love and support to Jones’ family and loved ones, with many prayers shouldering their burdens.

A memorial service for Jones will be held on Monday afternoon at Wynfield Plantation.
