Gigan’s Monsterverse Debut Revealed in 21-Year-Old Kaiju Film.

The Key Storyline of Godzilla: Final Wars Provides Blueprint for Gigan in the Monsterverse

Gigan, one of the most popular and iconic monsters in the Godzilla franchise, has always been a prime contender for a villainous role in the Monsterverse, a cinematic universe inspired by Legendary’s Godzilla and Kong films. Despite the interest in the character, Gigan has remained absent from the franchise, but with several projects in development, including a new Godzilla-Kong movie and TV shows, there is still a possibility for the character to appear.

The 2004 film Godzilla: Final Wars provides an existing concept for Gigan that could be adapted for the Monsterverse. In the film, Gigan is a cyborg monster from outer space and a relic of Earth’s ancient history, created by the Xiliens, an alien civilization, to fight against Mothra. The ancient Xiliens’ plan to conquer Earth failed when Gigan clashed with Mothra, leading to his remains being recovered and upgraded with modern technology.

The Monsterverse could draw inspiration from Godzilla: Final Wars, incorporating Gigan’s backstory and characteristics, which align with existing elements in the franchise, such as Ghidorah’s alien origin and Monsters getting technological advancements. Implementing a version of Gigan similar to the one in Final Wars would allow for a compelling storyline and added depth to the Monsterverse.

Furthermore, utilizing Gigan’s history with Mothra could be a significant advantage. Mothra’s lore is already an integral part of the Monsterverse, but it’s lacking a specific rival. Godzilla: Final Wars established Mothra as Gigan’s pre-existing enemy, providing a natural dynamic for their relationship. This would broaden the mythos of both characters and elevate the stakes in future conflicts.

In a more recent Godzilla film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, a similar concept could be applied, bypassing the connection with Godzilla and focusing on Mothra as Gigan’s primary rival. This would maintain the core elements of Gigan’s character while exploring new territories in the Monsterverse.

Overall, Godzilla: Final Wars offers a compelling blueprint for incorporating Gigan into the Monsterverse, offering a fresh take on the character while staying true to his iconic status.
