Georgia Preparing for Life Without Starting QB Carson Beck in College Football Playoff

Georgia is reportedly preparing to play without starting quarterback Carson Beck in the College Football Playoff, according to sources who revealed that Beck is exploring surgery options to repair an injury to his throwing arm.

The injury occurred on the last play before halftime in the SEC Championship game against Texas, when a Texas defender hit Beck’s arm as he threw a Hail Mary pass. Beck went down to the ground in pain and was replaced by sophomore Gunner Stockton in the third quarter.

Although Beck re-entered the game in overtime to hand off the ball to running back Trevor Etienne, who scored the game-winning touchdown, sources indicate that he is unlikely to return this season.

As a result, Stockton is in line to make his first career start in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal matchup in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day. Stockton has limited action across three games this season, going 25-32 for 206 yards.

Beck, a senior, has one more year of eligibility, but he may choose to declare for the NFL Draft, forgo his last year of eligibility, or enter the transfer portal to boost his stock. This season, he has completed 64.7% of his passes, throwing for 3,485 yards with 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, leading Georgia to an 11-2 record.
