Geno Smith Leads Seattle Seahawks to 10-Win Season, Earns $2 Million Contract Escalator
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith led the team to their first 10-win season in four years, finishing the 2024 regular season with 4,320 passing yards and a completion rate of 70.4%. Despite missing the postseason, Smith was able to earn a contract escalator worth $2 million thanks to meeting specific performance milestones.
Smith needed to lead the team to their 10th win and achieve certain passing yards and completion percentage targets to trigger the escalators. He accomplished both, throwing for 233 yards and four touchdowns in the 30-25 win over the Los Angeles Rams.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald said Smith was focused on winning the game, rather than the financial incentives. “He was like, ‘I just want to go win.’ That’s all he cared about. He was awesome all week,” Macdonald said.
Smith, 34, has one more year left on his contract, with a salary of $14.8 million scheduled for next season. It is unclear if the team will work with him on a contract extension in the offseason.
