Fred Warner plays through broken bone in ankle, citing “that’s the NFL” mentality.

Defending NFC Champion 49ers’ Star Linebacker Fred Warner Battles Painful Ankle Injury

San Francisco 49ers star linebacker Fred Warner has been dealing with a painful ankle injury since late September. Despite nursing the injury, Warner has managed to remain active in every game this season.

Warner suffered the ankle injury in the first half of a Week 4 game against the New England Patriots. Since then, he’s been getting injections every week to help him play. “It’s something I deal with every game. I get on that table before every game and get it shot up every single game just to be able to roll. But it’s not an excuse,” Warner said.

Despite the injury, Warner has only been listed as a limited participant in practice once this season. He has maintained a productive season, logging 84 tackles and two interceptions.

Warner acknowledged that playing on a fractured bone likely won’t allow it to heal naturally. “Any time you fracture a bone, if you just continue to play on it, the bone is usually not going to be able to heal itself. So, just got to continue to just fight through,” Warner said.
