FOX Sports Brings NFL Playoffs to LA Firefighters Battling Devastating Wildfires
FOX Sports has partnered with first responders in Los Angeles, providing televisions for them to watch the NFL playoffs during their shift breaks as they battle the devastating wildfires in the region.
FOX Sports NFL reporter Jay Glazer, who was at the Palisades Incident Command Post in Malibu, explained that the idea to bring the playoffs to the firefighters came about when his wife, who was evacuating their home, brought protein bars and other supplies to raise morale. A group of firefighters asked for football games to watch, and Glazer called FOX Sports CEO Eric Shanks to make it happen.
Within a day, FOX Sports set up TVs in areas where the firefighters come back to their shifts to decompress and eat. They are showing not only their game on FOX but all the games this weekend.
Glazer praised the firefighters, saying, “They left their own homes to try and save ours.” FOX Sports’ head coaches, Dan Quinn and Dan Campbell, Facetimed with the firefighters before their playoff game, and the coaches were “enamored with our heroes.”
The fires have ravaged the region, killing over 25 people and burning down thousands of structures. FOX Sports is hoping to bring some normalcy and boost the morale of the first responders battling the blazes.
