Police in Aurora, Colorado, Detain 14 Suspects in Armed Home Invasion at Local Apartment Complex
Police have detained 14 suspects in connection with an overnight armed home invasion at a local apartment complex, which officials say was “without question a gang incident.”
The incident occurred just before 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday at The Edge at Lowry Apartments in the 1200 block of Dallas Street, where police were called to a reported armed home invasion in which victims were kidnapped and assaulted.
According to Aurora Police Department Chief Todd Chamberlain, 13 to 15 people, mostly males with some females, entered an apartment where two people were inside. The suspects took the victims to another apartment at the same location, where the victims were “threatened and bound.”
One of the victims, a man, sustained a stab wound and is expected to survive. Both victims are still at the hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Chamberlain described the treatment of the victims as “they were pistol-whipped, they were beat, they were mistreated. So does that fall in the category of torture for me? Yeah, it does.”
While authorities believe the incident is linked to a gang, Chamberlain said they are still unsure which gang is involved, but there is a high assumption that they may be affiliated with the TdA (Tren de Aragua) gang, which is known for its notorious activities.
The Edge at Lowry Apartments has been plagued by gang activity in the past, with this being the latest incident to bring attention to the issue. Chamberlain assured that the police have focused on the area and have taken action to address the problem.
