At least two people were killed and six others were injured in a school shooting at the Abundant Life Christian School in Madison, Wisconsin, on Monday. The suspected shooter, a juvenile, was found dead at the scene. The Madison Police Department responded to reports of an active shooter at 10:57 am and identified the deceased individual as the shooter. At least two people in addition to the shooter were killed, and six others were taken to a nearby hospital with injuries.
Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said the victims’ injuries ranged from minor to life-threatening, and that officers did not fire their weapons in response to the scene. The police have conducted multiple sweeps of the school and are currently conducting a third sweep using bomb-sniffing dogs.
The school acknowledged the shooting on Facebook, requesting prayers from the community. A former student of the school who attended from 2000 to 2004 said he was shocked and saddened to see the incident occur at a place he holds dear. The FBI’s Milwaukee bureau has deployed agents to the scene to assist in the investigation, and the White House has confirmed that President Biden has been briefed on the shooting.
