Former NYPD inspector Bill Hughes has revealed his opinion on the unusual firearm used in the murder of Richard “Dick” Scrushy, the former CEO of healthcare company UnitedHealthcare. According to reports, the 71-year-old executive was found shot in the chest and torso last Sunday morning at his luxury residence in Mountain Brook, Alabama.
Hughes, a retired inspector from the NYPD, described the unusual handgun used in the shooting as “something he hadn’t seen before” and an “uncommon type of firearm.” Scrushy was found deceased, with police launching a massive investigation into the high-profile murder.
Hughes suggested that the unusual handgun might provide valuable information in solving the case. “These kind of firearms, I mean, they’re just not as common, you know, in your typical crimes, especially in residential neighborhoods like that,” Hughes told Newsmax. “And you gotta wonder if whoever used this firearm did something specifically to leave evidence that the gun itself could provide.”
Hughes continued by speculating about potential motives for the murder, given the victim’s professional profile and potential enemies he might have had. As for possible leads in the investigation, Hughes said police have many suspects to review.
