Head Coaching Vacancies and the Coaches Who Can Fix NFL Teams

Ad

There are three current head-coaching vacancies in the NFL, with many more expected to open by Black Monday on January 6. With the coaching carousel set to spin, teams are already compiling lists of potential replacements. According to NFL insiders, a whopping five to eight head coaching jobs could be open by the start of next season.

In an attempt to help NFL owners and general managers make the right decision, here are some perfect matches for each potential opening:

New York Jets: Mike Vrabel, former Titans coach. The Jets need leadership and experience, and Vrabel brings both, along with toughness and credibility. He can fix the team’s problems in Year 1, even with a new quarterback.

Chicago Bears: Ben Johnson, Lions offensive coordinator. The Bears need someone who can develop rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, and Johnson has a brilliant offensive mind and leadership experience. He’s a prime candidate to turn Williams into a franchise quarterback.

New Orleans Saints: Aaron Glenn, Lions defensive coordinator. Glenn has ties to New Orleans, having played briefly for the team and previously worked as an assistant under Sean Payton. He’s a strong leader and has experience rebuilding a defense.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Todd Monken, Ravens offensive coordinator. The Jags need someone to improve their offense and get quarterback Trevor Lawrence back on track. Monken has a track record of success, and his experience would be a great asset.

Las Vegas Raiders: Bill O’Brien, Boston College head coach. With Tom Brady set to have a significant influence on the team, O’Brien would be a great fit, given his experience with Brady in New England. He’s a proven winner with a strong track record.

New York Giants: Brian Flores, Vikings defensive coordinator. Flores was previously a top candidate for the Giants job and has the toughness, leadership, and experience the team needs.

Dallas Cowboys: Kliff Kingsbury, Commanders offensive coordinator. The Cowboys need someone who can optimize their offense, and Kingsbury has a proven track record with quarterbacks. He’s also a Texas native with strong ties to the state.

Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Brady, Bills offensive coordinator. Brady has a history with Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, whom he helped develop at LSU. He could bring much-needed enthusiasm and creativity to the Bengals’ offense.
