Fetterman’s criticism of Trump charges sparks “View” panel’s doubletake.

Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman told “The View” on Monday that he believes the New York criminal trial against President Donald Trump was “politically motivated.” Fetterman said that the trial was “politically motivated” and wouldn’t have been prosecuted if it was someone else.

“I found that when the judicial system gets weaponized and targets political enemies for political gain, I think that’s inappropriate,” Fetterman said. “I think that degrades our collective trust in this very important institution, whether that’s a Democrat going after a Republican, or a Republican going after a Democrat.”

Fetterman also weighed in on the pardons given by Trump, saying he rejects them and does not support Trump’s decision to pardon January 6 defendants. He stated that he will not join the Republican Party, despite rumors to the contrary.

When asked about his views and policies shifting to the right, Fetterman denied the claims, saying he would make “a pretty terrible Republican.” He noted that he has remained consistent on issues such as being pro-choice, pro-really strong immigration, and pro-LGBTQ.

Fetterman has recently met with Trump at Mar-a-Lago, which has sparked speculation that he may switch to the Republican Party. However, he has repeatedly denied this and stated that he is committed to the Democratic Party.

Fetterman’s views on Trump and the 2024 election have been subject to scrutiny, as he was one of the few Democrats who publicly spoke about Trump earning strong support among voters. He has also been criticized for his comments about Trump supporters, saying that Democratic rhetoric attempting to cast them as “fascists” was ineffective.
