Female Republicans Push to Reignite Feminist Movement

Exclusive: Female Republicans Fighting to Change Perception of Party as the New Home for Women

Female Republicans in Congress are pushing to shift the decades-long narrative that Democrats are the party of women, with the goal of gaining significant gains in future elections.

“This issue has got to get back to our roots of being the party of women,” said Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y. “I don’t know why we ever allowed the Democrats to hijack the narrative and claim to be the party of women. That’s nonsense.”

Female Republican lawmakers argue that the party’s focus on cost of living, a key issue in the last election, is just as important for women as it is for anyone else. They also point to the party’s efforts on transgender youth and border security as evidence that Republicans are committed to protecting women’s interests.

Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, emphasized that Republicans are strong advocates for young women and girls, particularly in issues such as professional spaces, bathrooms, and sports. She referenced a recently passed bill that keeps biological male student athletes out of girls’ sports teams and locker rooms.

Female Republicans also tout their own history of championing women’s rights. Rep. Malliotakis noted that the 19th Amendment, which secured women’s right to vote, was passed under a Republican president, and a museum dedicated to women’s history was authorized during President Donald Trump’s first term.

Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., said that a party that seeks to deport illegal immigrants who commit sex crimes against women is the party that truly cares about protecting women. Rep. Julie Fedorchak, R-N.D., added that being a successful and competent candidate, as she was in her state’s election, is a key factor in appealing to women voters.

The cost of living, helping women manage their multiple roles, and promoting the role of parents are all important issues, according to the female Republicans. They argue that their party is the best choice for working women and families.
