The FBI has released a new wanted poster for the suspect in the murder of UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson, who was shot and killed outside a Manhattan building on December 4, 2024. The poster includes images of the suspect, including those of him inside a taxi cab and walking on a sidewalk, and offers a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to his arrest.
The FBI’s New York Field Office is working with the New York City Police Department to identify the suspect, who is believed to have shot Thompson outside 1335 Avenue of the Americas in Midtown Manhattan at approximately 6:40 a.m.
The investigation is ongoing, with police scouring Central Park and recovering a backpack linked to the suspect, which contained Monopoly money and a jacket. The backpack is being taken to a lab in Queens for forensic testing, including DNA analysis.
The manhunt has spread into multiple states, with the suspect potentially having used the New York City bus station to travel to New Jersey, Boston, Philadelphia, or Washington, D.C.
Retired FBI Agent Scott Duffey and former homicide detective Ted Williams have spoken to the investigation, with Duffey noting that the backpack and Monopoly money could provide valuable forensic evidence, and Williams calling the suspect’s use of the Monopoly money a “killer playing games with the authorities.”
