FBI Releases New Photo of New Orleans Terrorist Shamsud-Din Jabbar

The FBI New Orleans has released a new photo of Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the terrorist who carried out a deadly attack on New Year’s Day in the city’s French Quarter. The photo shows Jabbar riding a bicycle through the French Quarter on October 31, during a possible scouting mission before the attack.

The attack, which killed 14 people and injured over 30 others, occurred on January 1, 2025, when Jabbar drove a pickup truck through a crowd of pedestrians on Bourbon Street and opened fire on police. Jabbar died in a shootout with responding officers.

The new photo shows Jabbar wearing what appears to be a pair of Meta smart glasses, which investigators say he used to stream and record videos. The photo was taken on Halloween, another popular holiday in the city.

The FBI is asking anyone with information on the attack or Jabbar, or who was in the French Quarter between 2 and 6 pm on October 31, to contact them at 1-800-CALL-FBI. Tips, including photos and videos, can also be submitted online.

Jabbar, an Army veteran, had previously traveled to Egypt for 110 days in 2023 and had visited New Orleans at least twice before the attack. He used the Meta glasses to record video along parts of Bourbon Street, according to the FBI.

The FBI also released surveillance footage showing Jabbar an hour before the attack, in which he is seen driving a truck down Bourbon Street. The footage shows him planting two coolers packed with IEDs prior to the attack, which did not detonate.

Jabbar was killed in a shootout with police after he sped around a parked police vehicle and began mowing down pedestrians on Bourbon Street. Video shows him zooming down the narrow street at a high speed as panicked revelers run for their lives.
