FBI Raids Rhode Island Law Offices of Municipal Judge Joseph Molina Flynn
Federal agents from the FBI descended on the Rhode Island law offices of Central Falls Municipal Judge Joseph Molina Flynn yesterday, seizing handfuls of documents and electronic data as part of a sweeping investigation into allegations of corruption and fraud.
According to sources, the raid, which took place early in the morning, involved agents from the FBI’s public corruption task force and served a search warrant on the offices, which are located in the heart of Providence.
The search and seizure was reportedly focused on a number of specific areas, including files, computers, and other electronic devices, as well as monetary instruments, and any other items that could potentially be relevant to the investigation.
No arrests were made as a result of the raid, but authorities have charged Molina Flynn with embezzling funds from the city of Central Falls. It is not clear at this time what the complete nature of the charges is or whether he will face any additional criminal counts.
Legal experts have noted that it is not uncommon for federal authorities to raid the offices of a potentially accused public official as part of an ongoing investigation, as it allows them access to evidence that could potentially be relevant to the case.
Molina Flynn has been a municipal judge in Central Falls since 1995 and has also had his own law practice on the side. It is unclear how this ordeal will impact his ability to continue in either capacity.
