FBI Director Christopher Wray Announces Plans to Step Down at End of Biden Administration
FBI Director Christopher Wray announced his plans to step down from his post at the end of the Biden administration. Wray made the announcement during an FBI town hall in Washington, D.C., where thousands of FBI employees were expected to join virtually across the country.
Wray said he had decided to serve until the end of the current administration in January and then step down, stating that his goal is to keep the focus on the bureau’s mission and the important work that agents do every day. He emphasized that the decision was not easy for him, as he loves the FBI, its mission, and its people.
Wray also reiterated his focus on the FBI doing what is right, saying that the importance of the bureau’s work will not change, and that its commitment to doing the right thing, the right way, every time must never change.
The FBI Agents Association released a statement thanking Wray for his leadership and service to the country, saying that he has led the bureau through challenging times with a steady focus on keeping the country safe. The association also welcomed the opportunity to meet with Trump’s team to discuss the perspectives and priorities of rank-and-file FBI Special Agents.
Wray’s last day in office is still undecided, but it is expected to be in January before Trump’s inauguration. Deputy Director Paul Abbate will become acting director until a new director is in place, and Abbate is expected to retire soon.
