A California couple, identified as 61-year-old Daniel Winer and his wife, 62-year-old Marilee Winer, were tragically killed while on vacation in Mexico. The fatal incident occurred on May 16th at a residence in the municipality of Cuidad del Carmen in the state of Campeche.
According to official reports, the couple was shot multiple times during a domestic dispute at their rented Airbnb. The shooters, whose identities have not been revealed, were arrested and charged with the couple’s murders.
The Cuidad del Carmen local police investigation has revealed that the violence stemmed from a long-standing feud between the Winers and the resident of the Airbnb, 52-year-old Juan Antonio Martinez Martinez.
The victims, originally from San Mateo in San Diego, had reportedly rented the house for 15 days before their deadly encounter. Mexican authorities said the couple’s bodies were found with signs of apparent gunshot wounds and a shotgun was recovered from the crime scene.
Following the killing, the Campeche State Attorney’s Office intervened in the case, ascertaining the evidence at the crime scene and beginning a thorough investigation.
