European Far-Right Populists to Attend Trump’s Inauguration

The inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump is expected to feature a gathering of European far-right populists. Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has confirmed his attendance, despite earlier uncertainty due to a call from tech billionaire and Trump adviser Elon Musk for him to be replaced as party leader.

Italian far-right leader Giorgia Meloni, who received a personal invitation from Trump, will also be in attendance. French right-wing extremists Éric Zemmour and Sarah Knafo from the Reconquest party are expected to attend, along with Marion Maréchal, the niece of far-right leader Marine Le Pen. Tom Van Grieken, the chairman of Belgium’s radical right-wing party Vlaams Belang, will join fellow European populists at the inauguration.

The co-leader of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), Tino Chrupalla, has also confirmed his attendance. In contrast, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, a prominent figure in European right-wing populism, will not be attending Trump’s inauguration, citing the traditional focus of the event on the peaceful transfer of power.

The German government will be represented by its ambassador to the US, as is customary. The event is expected to feature a gathering of world leaders who share values with Trump’s “America First” agenda.
