Atlanta Falcons Head Coach Raheem Morris Vows to Stick with Kirk Cousins as Starting QB
Despite quarterback Kirk Cousins’ struggles, including a four-interception game in a loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, Falcons head coach Raheem Morris is sticking with Cousins as his starting quarterback. The team is currently tied for first place in the NFC South with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Morris believes that Cousins has carried the team to its 6-6 record.
Cousins has thrown an interception in each of the past two games and has not thrown a touchdown in three consecutive games. However, Morris has expressed his confidence in Cousins and does not believe that he will be benched. “That guy’s carried us,” Morris said. “That guy’s got us to the point where we’re 6-6, first place in the division. Still got everything in front of us, despite what happened today.”
First-round pick Michael Penix Jr. will continue to serve as Cousins’ backup, despite his own performance in the game. Cousins has not thrown a touchdown in each of the last three games and has completed three of his five passes for 38 yards.
The Falcons’ next game is a “revenge game” against Cousins’ former team, the Minnesota Vikings, and Morris hopes that Cousins will be able to right the ship in that game.
