Atlanta Falcons Hire Jeff Ulbrich as New Defensive Coordinator
The Atlanta Falcons have hired Jeff Ulbrich as their new defensive coordinator, according to a report by NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero. The team announced the hire shortly after the report.
Ulbrich, a former New York Jets interim head coach, has deep connections to Atlanta and current head coach Raheem Morris, with whom he worked from 2015 to 2020. He was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2020 under then-interim head coach Morris, and the duo is now reunited.
The Falcons parted ways with defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake following an 8-9 season, in which the team’s defense allowed 24.9 points per game and 345.2 yards per tilt, ranking 23rd in the NFL in both categories. Ulbrich joins Robert Saleh in New York, working as DC under the defensive-minded head coach. However, Saleh was fired this past season, and Ulbrich took over as interim head coach, leading the team to a 3-9 record.
Ulbrich also interviewed for the Jets’ full-time head-coaching gig.
