Atlanta Falcons Fire Defensive Coordinator Jimmy Lake and Defensive Line Coach Jay Rodgers
The Atlanta Falcons have made changes to their coaching staff, announcing the firing of defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake and defensive line coach Jay Rodgers after just one season. The decision was made following a thorough evaluation of the season and consideration for the team’s future.
Lake, who previously served as assistant head coach with the Los Angeles Rams in 2023, had been with the Falcons for only a year. Despite having a talented defensive core, the team struggled, finishing 23rd in the NFL in points allowed per game (24.9) and 23rd in yards per game (345.2). The final straw may have been the season-ending loss to the Carolina Panthers, in which the Falcons allowed 44 points.
Head coach Raheem Morris expressed his gratitude to Lake and Rodgers, wishing them and their families the best. The Falcons will now be looking for a new defensive coordinator in the offseason.
