Elliott Reunited with Cowboys, Faces Uncertain Future
Elliott, a ninth-year veteran running back, has reunited with the Dallas Cowboys this offseason, having spent 2023 with the New England Patriots. Despite being used sparingly in 2024, he amassed 226 rushing yards and three touchdowns off 74 carries and 12 receptions for 69 yards in 15 games played. The Cowboys, who faced a slow start and sustained injuries to key players, including quarterback Dak Prescott, were eliminated from the playoffs ahead of their Week 16 win over the Buccaneers.
At 29 years old, Elliott no longer possesses the same burst he once had, but his on-field experience and above-average pass blocking skills could be attractive to a playoff-bound team in need of his services. His future with the Cowboys remains uncertain, potentially leaving him to finish third in the franchise’s all-time rushing leaders list with 8,488 yards behind Tony Dorsett (12,036) and the NFL’s all-time rushing leader, Emmitt Smith (17,162).
