Ex-Gridiron star proposes benching Patrick Mahomes for the playoffs due to ankle injury concern.

Patrick Mahomes’ Ankle Injury Comes at Inopportune Time for Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a mild high-ankle sprain, making it a challenging stretch for the team as they head into the final weeks of the regular season and the playoffs. Mahomes complained about playing three games in an 11-day stretch, and his injury has raised concerns about his availability for the upcoming games.

Former NFL MVP Matt Ryan, who led the Atlanta Falcons to a Super Bowl appearance, believes that the Chiefs should rest Mahomes until the playoffs. In an interview with “CBS Sports HQ,” Ryan stated that it’s crucial to have Mahomes healthy for the playoff stretch, and ankles are a fragile part of the body. He suggested that the team should sit Mahomes for the remaining games, allowing him to heal and be as fresh as possible for the playoff push.

Ryan’s comments echo concerns about Mahomes’ history of ankle injuries. In the past, he has played through high-ankle sprains, including in Super Bowl LVII. Despite being the quarterback, Mahomes has dealt with various setbacks, including an ankle injury in 2023 that forced him to leave a playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Chiefs have a crucial stretch ahead, with a game against the Houston Texans on Saturday and a road trip to face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day. Mahomes’ injury leaves fans and experts wondering what the team will do to protect their star quarterback. Will they sit him out to ensure his health, or will they let him play through the pain? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: Mahomes’ ankle injury has put the team’s playoff aspirations at risk.
