As many are still grappling with the aftermath of the recent attack in New Orleans, former Boston Police Commissioner Evans professed that the scene is eerily reminiscent of the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. In an interview, Evans drew parallels between the two events, stating, “It was a night when people were out having a good time, and it turned into a nightmare.”

Evans shared his thoughts on the situation, reflecting on his experience during the marathon bombing, which resulted in three fatalities and over 260 injuries. He recalled how the Boston marathon, typically a symbol of unity and celebration, was transformed into a scene of chaos and devastation.

“This community was brought together in joy, and then it was shattered in an instant,” Evans said. “I think that’s what we’re seeing in New Orleans right now. People were having a great time, and then suddenly, an attack happened. It’s a trail of destruction and fear.”

Evans, now a Democratic candidate for mayor, spoke about the similarities between the two events, saying that the effects of the attacks are still being felt. “These events linger, and they linger in the memories of the victims, their families, and the broader community,” he said.

Evans also emphasized the importance of community response and support during times of crisis. “It’s remarkable to see the resilience of the people in New Orleans, and their ability to come together in the face of adversity. That’s what makes us strong as a community.” He noted that the police department and emergency services responded quickly and effectively, adding that the response would be crucial in the coming days and months.
